Overview

This richly carved wooden panel brings together the craft traditions of traditional woodwork in one vertical piece. Its rust-red and verdigris-teal finish over deep brown wood gives it the look of a heritage architectural element. It can serve as a statement wall panel, a decorative door, a cabinet front, or a focal piece in an entryway or living space.

Design and Carving

The panel is a tall rectangle framed by a continuous twisted-rope border carved in relief and picked out in soft teal-green. The same rope motif runs across the middle as a horizontal divider, splitting the face into two mirrored sections. This gives the piece balance and rhythm.

Each section holds three vertical bands:

  • Floral vine (left): A climbing stem with three round, daisy-like blooms, each with a carved central disc and radiating petals. The leaves curve gracefully along the stem and are highlighted in sage green against the warm wood.
  • Geometric lattice (centre): An interlocking pattern of stars, diagonals, and intersecting lines, carved in fine relief over a deep red-brown ground. The lattice is inspired by traditional jali and Islamic-influenced geometry.
  • Scrolling vine (right): A flowing S-shaped scroll with curled leaf details, tinted in muted teal for a subtle contrast with the centre panel.

Colour and Finish

The palette is earthy and layered. Deep chocolate-brown wood forms the frame, terracotta and brick red fill the recessed fields, and antique teal accents the raised carving. The finish has a naturally aged, hand-rubbed character, with the colours settling into the grooves so the carved detail stands out. It looks warm and lived-in, not glossy or factory-made.

Craftsmanship

The relief carving has real depth. The rope twist, flower centres, and lattice lines all show hand-worked dimension, and the variation in tone and texture is part of the piece's charm. Each panel is individual, with small differences that come with handcrafted work.

Styling Ideas

  • Wall art: Mount it on its own as a sculptural feature above a console, sideboard, or bed.
  • Doorway or entry: Use it as a decorative door or a feature at a foyer.
  • Furniture integration: Use it as a cabinet door, headboard back, or room divider insert.
  • Pairings: It sits well with brass accents, jute or cotton rugs, white or warm neutral walls, and both heritage and modern-eclectic interiors.
