Design and Detailing

Carved frieze crown: A deep, overhanging cornice caps the piece. Beneath it runs a band of hand-carved floral and scrollwork, with traces of warm natural tone showing through the white wash. The carving makes the crown feel like a piece of period architecture.

Fluted column pillars: Two slender columns flank the open shelves, each topped with a carved capital. They give the unit vertical grace and make the shelving feel like a framed alcove, like a niche in a heritage building.

Open display shelves: Two generous shelves in a rich, dark wood interior contrast beautifully with the pale exterior. The dark backdrop makes books, brass accents, ceramics, antiques, and framed pieces stand out.

Heritage door cabinet: The lower section has two doors built in the style of antique window and door panels. Each has a grid of recessed square panes framed by rustic wood. Iron studs, strap hinges, and aged ring pulls add authentic old-world hardware. The closed storage below keeps clutter out of sight while the shelves above stay on display.

Solid plinth base: A broad, stepped base grounds the unit and gives it a sturdy, substantial presence.

Finish and Character

The whitewashed finish is deliberately distressed. Natural grain, subtle wear, and exposed wood tones show through the white. Every piece is slightly different, so variations in colour, texture, and carving are part of its handcrafted charm rather than flaws.
