Overview
This carved wooden door panel brings the craft heritage of Rajasthan into a modern space. A weathered verdant green finish, with warm terracotta and coral tones showing through the worn paint, gives it the character of a piece that has stood in a haveli for generations. It works as a statement door, a piece of wall art, or a base for custom furniture.
Design and Carving
The panel is built as a symmetrical, multi-panel composition.
- Rope-twist border: Layers of hand-carved braided, rope-style borders frame the entire door. They give it depth, rhythm, and a sense of strength.
- Diamond lattice panels: Five recessed panels are carved with a fine cross-hatched diamond (jaali-style) pattern. They add texture and catch light and shadow differently through the day.
- Serpentine vine motifs: Vertical and horizontal bands carry flowing, interlaced scroll carvings. These are the focal points of the design and balance the geometric lattice with organic movement.
- Layered relief: The raised borders, recessed panels, and carved bands create a sculptural, three-dimensional surface that rewards close inspection.
Finish and Character
The finish is a distressed, multi-layered paint in deep jade green over a terracotta-coral base. Natural wear along the carved edges lets the warmer undertone glow through, highlighting the carving and giving the panel a lived-in, heirloom feel. Every piece has its own patina, so no two are exactly alike.
Styling and Use
- As a door: An entrance, pooja room, or interior statement door in a heritage home, boutique hotel, or café.
- As wall art: Mounted on a feature wall in a living room, entryway, or restaurant.
- As a headboard: A dramatic backdrop for a bedroom.
- As furniture: Repurposed into a console table, bar counter, sideboard front, or tabletop.
- As a divider: A decorative partition for open-plan spaces.
It pairs well with natural stone, warm brass, jute and cane textures, white or earthy walls, and the layered look of bohemian, Indian heritage, or rustic-luxe interiors.
Craftsmanship
Made by skilled artisans using traditional hand-carving techniques, this piece reflects India's long woodworking heritage. Slight variations in carving, color, and aging are natural and are part of its authenticity.
